Before & After School-Age Care and Development

School-age kids are both independent and social, eager for structured learning as well as time to do their own thing. We provide both! Our friendly and flexible before and/or after school program provides time for schoolwork, learning activities, and play. 

The goal of our school-age program is to have a positive influence on your child’s school performance by encouraging a lifelong love of learning and healthy social skills. Teachers are available to help students complete homework and provide fun educational activities that continue to build your child’s independence and self-confidence.

Merry Moose Childcare and Preschool has limited space for full-day care on non-school days. Our before and/or after school-age programs in Richmond and Cold Spring are equipped for children between the ages of 5 and 8.

school-age Program

The Merry Moose school-age program is created to meet the unique needs of each child. We make learning fun, with a focus on strengthening literacy, math, science, and social-emotional skills.

Children learn at different rates and in different ways, and we encourage the process versus praise the result. Our school-age program is well-balanced, with time to complete homework, participate in both independent and teacher-led activities, and socialize with peers. 

​​Weather permitting, your child will go outside each day for free play and some structured activities.

School-age Schedules

Merry Moose Childcare and Preschool offers care for students before school beginning at 6:00 a.m. and after school until 5:30 p.m. 

Information for Parents & Families

Every family is provided with a copy of the Merry Moose Childcare and Preschool Handbook. Everything you’ll need to know, including our policies, procedures, and approach to child development, can be found inside. Our professional childcare team is always available to answer questions about our school-age program. ​

Items provided by parents/families:

• Water bottle
• One extra change of clothing, seasonal/outdoor clothing, and one pair of indoor shoes
• Please label all supplies with child’s first and last name

Items provided by the center:

• Cots for rest/napping
• Nutritious snacks (meals provided for full-day students)
• Daily log/updates on your student’s day (meals, activities, photos) via the Brightwheel app
• Monthly newsletters
